It is now 3 weeks until Tesco opens its door in Penistone. There has been endless debate amongst the people of Penistone as to whether this is a good or a bad thing and I can see both sides of the argument. There are shops within Penistone that will no doubt suffer as a result- we already have 2 smaller supermarkets, 2 butchers, 2 newsagents and 2 florists that seem obvious targets.
These shops need to positively differentiate themselves, our florists, Nina at Hackettts has done this by offering bespoke jewellry, cards and gifs and the more unusual flower arrangements that Tesco will not so.
If Tesco were to open an in store dental practice we hope our attention to customer service, and the individual treatment of individuals would do the same.
As the store will open I have to see it as an opportunity for Penistone to reinvent itself. With the obvious closures will we see more brands? Costa, Starbucks maybe even a Pizza Express?? Or more fast food places to service the pub trade?
Exciting times and I know which way I hope it will go!!
